We vertrekken op vakantie naar Noorwegen! We vliegen met KLM van Brussel via Amsterdam naar Oslo. De luchthaven Gardermoen ligt 40 km. ten noorden van Oslo. We logeren in Konsberg bij Magne, Ann-Kristin, Stine, Maiken en Sigurd. Kongsberg ligt op

ongeveer 80 km. van Oslo.

Today we start our holiday in Norway! We fly with KLM from Brussels through Amsterdam to Oslo. Oslo airport Gardermoen is situated 40 kms. north of Oslo. During this holiday we stay with our friends Magne, Ann-Kristin, Stine, Maiken and Sigurd. They live in Konsberg which is about 80 kms. from Oslo.

Zondag 23 december 2001

De dag van de voorbereidingen voor Kerstmis! Alle koekjes zijn gebakken. De traditie wil dat er minstens zeven verschillende soorten gebakken worden. Het peperkoekenhuisje wordt door de kinderen versierd.

Tijdens de advent is blauw een belangrijke kleur in huis (kaarsen, tafelkleed,...). Vandaag wordt dat blauw vervangen door rood.

De kerstboom wordt binnengehaald en iedereen helpt met het ophangen van de kerstballen.

Daarna is er tijd voor een gezelschapsspelletje. Als de kinderen slapen worden de 'stockings' opgehangen. Morgenvroeg vinden ze daar

reeds een kadootje in. Ook worden alle kadootjes onder de boom gelegd. We hebben ze niet geteld maar het waren er vast niet veel minder dan 100!

A day filled with Christmas preparations! All cookies are baked. At least seven different sorts of cookies should be baked for Christmas.

The children finish decorating the little house. The tree finds his place in the house and everybody helps decorating it.

After the children have gone to bed we hang up the stockings in which they will find a little surprise in the morning.

I didn't count the presents that were put under the tree but I guess there were nearly 100!

Maandag 24 december 2001

Kerstavond is de belangrijkste avond voor de Noren. We gaan even postkaarten kopen in het centrum van Kongsberg en wandelen bergop terug naar het huis.

De traditie wil dat de kledij met Kerst rood is. Toevallig hebben Sanne en Lotte ook rode feestkledij mee!

Er is tijd voor een sneeuwgevecht in de tuin. Daarna komt Nisse op bezoek. Hij heeft voor iedereen een kadootje mee.

Na het smakelijke traditionele kerstmaal beginnen we om 19 uur met het openen van de pakjes.

Iedereen heeft voor iedereen een pakje. De Norensturen ook kadootjes naar vrienden en familie die verder weg wonen.

De kinderen hebben zelf leuke dingen geknutseld voor ons zoals vb. beschilderde kaarsen. Leuke souvenirs die zorgen dat we in België ook nog veel aan hen denken.

Christmas Eve is the most important evening to celebrate for Norwegians. We go into town to find the postoffice and we

walk the way up back to the house.

In Norway people dress red to celebrate Christmas. 

In the afternoon the children go out to play in the snow. Then Nisse rings at the door. He brought his bag with presents for everyone.

The traditional dinner is very good. And we are told that tomorrow we eat the leftovers... we won't argue about that!

After dinner we gather around the Christmastree and one by one the presents are being opened.

Norwegian people also send presents to friends and family that live further away.

The children have been making some presents themselves, like painted candles and so on. Things we appreciate very much and which 

make us think of them once we are back in Belgium.

Kerstdag. De nieuwe vlag wordt voor het eerst aan de mast gehesen. De zon schijnt en het is -5° celsius. In de tuin en in het bos achter het huis kan volop van de heuvels geraced worden. We maken een wandeling door het bos.

Vandaag worden de overschotjes van het feestmaal van gisteren opgegeten en alles smaakt nog even lekker!

Christmas. The new flag is out on the post in the garden. It's a sunny day and about 5 degrees below zero.

The children play in the forest behind the house. They race down the hills with the sleighs.

And the leftovers are as tasty as the dinner was yesterday!

Vandaag gaan we langlaufen. We volgen een loype vanuit het Kongsberg Skisenter. Het gaat meer bergop en bergaf dan ik verwacht had. Vallen en weer opstaan is dus vaak aan de orde! Sanne doet een hele toer, zo'n 7 km. Met Lotte gaat het niet zo snel maar ze doet toch haar best.

Het is -10° celsius maar als we in beweging blijven voelen we de koude niet.

Over de donkere dagen in Kongsberg: hier komt de zon nu op rond 9u30 en ze gaat onder rond 15u30. Maar het opkomen duurt langer dan bij ons zo dat het al vroeger klaar begint te worden. De sneeuw zorgt er ook voor dat het niet helemaal pikdonker is 's nachts.

Our first day on the ski's. We call it 'langlauf', in Norway they call it 'cross country'. There were more differences in alltitude then I expected so it was falling and standing up more than once! Sanne completes a round of about 7 km.

Lotte can't be that fast but she is trying anyway.

It is minus 10 degrees but while moving we don't feel the cold.

About the darker days in Kongsberg: the sun rises around 9.30 am and sets at about 3.30 pm. But the rising takes longer than in Belgium so it is not completely dark untill 9.30. Because of  the snow it isn't completely dark during the night.

Onze tweede langlaufdag en we zoeken het hogerop. Ongeveer een uurtje rijden van Kongsberg ligt Blefjell.

De top Bletoppen ligt op 1.341 m. boven de zeespiegel. Onderweg wijst de thermometer in de auto -22° celsius aan! Het is 

nog flink koud aan de parking maar eens op het plateau is het heerlijk. De zon schijnt volop en als we even stoppen voor een koekje worden onze handen niet eens koud. De omgeving is prachtig en we zijn er bijna helemaal alleen.

We maken een tocht van meer dan 8 km.

Our second day on the ski's. We drive to the mountain, about one hour from Konsberg. It is called Blefjell and the top Bletoppen has an

alltitude of 1.341 m. above sealevel. In the car the thermometer indicated minus 22 degrees. Where we park the car it is still very 

cold but once we are in the sun it is very niece. The sun is shining and when we stop for a cookie we don't get cold hands.

The scenery is beautifull. We are almost alone here. We ski for more than 8 kms. and I manage to stay on the ski's better than yesterday!

Vandaag nemen we de bus naar Oslo voor een winkeldagje. De Karl Johans Gate is de meest bekende winkelstraat in Oslo en daar zijn zoveel winkels dat we er een hele dag zoet zijn. Aan het eind van de Karl Johans Gate zien we het koninklijk paleis.

Vandaag was het -9° celsius. Tegen de avond begint het te sneeuwen.

Today we take the bus to Oslo to do some shopping. The Karl Johans Gate is a famous shopping straat and there are so many shops

that we don't get to see the rest of Oslo. Towards the end of the Karl Johans Gate we see the palace of the Norwegian king.

The temperature was minus 9 degrees. It starts to snow in the late afternoon.

Zaterdag 29 december 2001

Het heeft de hele nacht gesneeuwd en dat doet het ook de hele verdere dag. Er valt dus een mooi tapijtje bij. Het is -9° celsius.

We gaan winkelen in Kongsberg. In Noorwegen beginnen de koopjes na Kerstmis en we kunnen enkele dingen op de kop tikken.

De tocht terug is bergop en het sneeuwt nog steeds maar zelfs Lotte horen we niet klagen.

It snowed all night and it keeps on snowing for the rest of the day. Still minus 9 degrees. We take a look in the shops of Kongsberg.

In Norway the sales-period starts after Christmas and so it is worth taking a look in the shops. It is dark and snowing when we walk up to the house. Lotte is not complaining allthough she has been walking around a lot today.

Zondag 30 december 2001

Vandaag is het -15° celsius en er schijnt een stralende zon. We gaan wandelen in de buurt van het Skisenter.

In de late namiddag gaan we naar het basketbal kijken. Sigurd is fan van de Kongsberg Penguins die in de Noorse eerste afdeling spelen. Het wordt een heel spannende wedstrijd die de thuisploeg slechts verliest in de allerlaatste seconde!

Achteraf eten we bij Jeppes Pïzza.

Today it is minus 15 degrees and the sun is shining brightly. We take a walk in the neighbourhood of the Skisenter.

In the afternoon we go to the basketbalgame of the Kongsberg Penguins. They play in first national division of Norway. It is an exciting game which the Penguins lose in the very last seconds!

We eat out at Jeppes Pizza.

Maandag 31 december 2001

-15° celsius en een prachtige dag om nog wat laatste foto's te maken. We trekken het bos achter de tuin in.

We vieren oudejaarsavond met het gezin van de broer van Magne en met de schoonbroer van Ann-Kristin. Haar zus is zaterdag bevallen van een zoontje en ligt nog in het ziekenhuis.

De kalkoen is heerlijk lekker!

Rond 23u45 trekken we naar buiten en wordt het vuurwerk afgestoken. Haast iedereen in Kongsberg doet hetzelfde. We klinken buiten op het nieuwe jaar en binnen zingen we voor Lotte's 7de verjaardag. Dan moeten we naar bed want morgen wacht ons een lange dag.

Minus 15 degrees and a beautifull day to shoot some last pictures. We don't have to go further than the forrest behind the garden.

We celebrate New Years Eve with the family of Magne's brother and with Ann-Kristin's brother in law. Her sister gave birth to a son last saturday and she is still in hospital.

The turkey tasts great!

At 11.45 pm we go outside for the fireworks. Almost everybody here lights fireworks in the garden. Outside we toast to the New Year and inside our friends sing a Norwegian birthdaysong for Lotte who celebrates her 7th birthday on New Years Day. 

Dinsdag 1 januari 2002

Om 8u30 nemen we afscheid. Iedereen is wakker om ons uit te zwaaien. Magne brengt ons naar de bushalte.

Het is 'slechts' -7° celsius.

Via een overstap in Oslo komen we rond 11 uur aan op de luchthaven Gardermoen.

Bij het terugvorderen van btw op taxfree goederen die we kochten in Oslo krijgen we onze eerste Eurobriefjes in de hand.

Ze komen uit Finland.

Het weer is ons gunstig gezind en we genieten van een prachtig laatste uitzicht op Noorwegen vanuit de lucht.

In Amsterdam stappen we over op de vlucht naar Brussel. Als men hoort dat Lotte jarig is krijgen we enkele extra porties drank en nootjes. Lotte en Sanne mogen zelfs een kijkje in de cockpit nemen!

Tuesday, january 1st, 2002

After a short night we have to say goodbye at 8.30 am. Magne drives us to the busstop.

It is 'only' minus 7 degrees and we can feel the difference with the colder days.

We change busses in Oslo and arrive at the airport at about 11 am.

We did some taxfree shopping in Oslo and at the airport we can get some taxmoney back.

The lady hands us our first Euronotes. They are from Finland.

Thanks to the beautifull weather we have a marvelous view when flying over Norway!

In Amsterdam we have to change for the flight to Brussels. When the crew hears that it's Lotte's birthday we get some extra drinks and

peanuts to take home. Lotte and Sanne may even have a look into the cockpit!
