De Provence

Voor de vierde zomer op rij zoeken we de op zon in Frankrijk. En net zoals vorig jaar strijken we neer in de Provence. We zetten de tent op op Camping Canet Plage in Saint-Chamas. De camping is gelegen aan het Etang De Berre, een zoutwatermeer met doorgang naar de Middellandse Zee. We zijn hier 1.046 km. van huis.
For the fourth summer in a row we look for the sun in France. And for the second time already we go to the Provence. We put up the tent on Camping Canet Plage in Saint-Chamas. The campground is at the border of the lake Etang De Berre. This is a saltwaterlake that flows into the Mediterranean Sea. We are at 1.046 kilometres from home.
De camping is niet te groot (220 plaatsen) en begin juli is het er nog rustig. Enkel de treinen en vliegtuigen houden ons soms uit onze slaap. Er is een klein zwembad (geen peuterbad), één speeltuig, een gratis tennisterrein en een petanqueterrein.
De campground is not too big and at the beginning of July it is not yet crowded. Only the trains and airplanes sometimes keep us awake. There is a small swimmingpool, a small playground, a free tenniscourt and a jeu-de-boules-court.
Les Baux De Provence
Het middeleeuws dorp en de ruïnes van het kasteel zijn gebouwd hoog op de rots en torenen boven de omgeving uit. In de oude huisjes zijn winkeltjes en eetgelegenheden.

This is a castle and village from the Middle Ages. They are built on a rock. In the old houses are shops and restaurants.

De Alpilles zijn een kalkmassief die vanuit de verte op een hooggebergte lijken. In de voorgrond de olijfbomen.
The Alpilles are limestone hills. From a distance they look like high mountains. In front are the olive trees.
Net buiten Saint-Rémy-de-Provence liggen de ruïnes van de stad Glanum. Deze stad ontstond in de 7de eeuw voor Christus.
Just outside Saint-Rémy-de-Provence are the ruins of de city of Glanum. This city dates from 700 years before Christ.
Aix-en-Provence
Gezellig stadje waar net een kunstenaarsmarkt aan de gang is. We kopen er souvenirs en kadootjes. Op onze wandeling komen we voorbij het Hôtel de Ville uit 1600 en voorbij de Fontein met de vier dolfijnen uit 1667. We bezoeken de Saint Sauveur Kathedraal. Het aanpalende klooster is helaas gesloten wegens restauratie.
Aix-en-Provence
Cosy town where we stroll around on the art-market. We buy souvenirs and presents there. We walk along the Hôtel de Ville dating from about 1600 and along the Fountain with four dolphins from 1667. We visit the Saint Sauveur Kathedral. The cloister is unfortunatly closed for restauration.

De Cours Mirabeau is een prachtige, schaduwrijke laan met bomen die honderden jaren oud zijn. Langs de laan zijn er drie waterbronnen. Uit de middelste komt water van 34° celsius.
The Cours Mirabeau is a beautifull lane with trees that are hundreds of years old. On the lane are three water sources. The second one has water that is 34 degrees celsius.
Een tweetal km. van de camping is er het strandje van de Merveilles. Op een doordeweekse dag zijn we er bijna helemaal alleen.
About 2 kilometres from the campground is the small beach of the Merveilles. We have the beach almost to ourselves.

Cassis
Cassis is een dorp gelegen aan de Middellandse Zee. De eerste foto's zijn genomen langsheen de Route des Crêtes, de Bergkamroute, ten oosten van Cassis. Deze route slingert over Cap Canaille, Europa's hoogste klif aan de zeekust (400m. hoog).
Cassis
Cassis is a town at the Mediterranean Sea. The first pictures are taken along the Route des Crêtes, the Mountain Ridge Route, east of Cassis. The route follows Cap Canaille, the highest clif of Europe along a coast (400 metres high).
Ten westen van Cassis liggen de Calanques. Deze kalkrotsen vormen een fjordachtig landschap. Met een bootje varen we tot in drie calanques.
At the west of Cassis are the Calanques. Thru the years these limestone rocks formed different fjords. With a boat we sail into three calanques.
Beaucaire
In de Mas Gallo-Romain des Tourelles zien we hoe vroeger de wijn gemaakt werd. Elke tweede zondag van september doen ze het hier op de Gallo-Romeinse manier.
In het Kasteel van Beaucaire vliegen de uilen, arenden en gieren ons rond het hoofd. Er komt er zelfs eentje op mama's hoofd zitten! Op de foto onderaan de grootste gier van Europa.
Beaucaire
At the Mas Gallo-Romain des Tourelles we can see how the wine was made in earlier times. Every second sunday of september they do it the Gallo-Roman-way.
At the Castle of Beacaire we meet the owls, eagles and vulteres. They fly around freely and one of them comes to sit on An's head! The second picture shows the biggest vulture of Europe.
